Challenges The discrete event analytical simulation skills of Decision Logic lend themselves very well to conducting detailed modelling of the complex issues of long time horizon workforce and skills continuity planning and analysis. With the release of the 2009 Defence Whitepaper, the Australian Defence Department faces great challenges in ensuring that it has the necessary critical mass of staff with the right skills and experience levels to man the new major capabilities projected to come on line over the next twenty years. This implies that the recruiting policies and systems followed by the single service and joint training systems are operating at maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Defence stands a much greater chance of meeting the directed levels of cost savings over the next decade if they adopt robust quantitative modelling of these systems. In addition to the Defence environment, workforce planning and skills continuity is critical to many businesses, and its notoriously hard to model. Linked to this problem is analysis of labour force and shift structures to optimise costs and availability. Decision Logic can assist across this problem set. Better Outcomes Our goal is to work with our clients to develop these analytical capabilities to assist them in better predicting the likely quantitative impacts on major operational capabilities that stem from policy and resource allocation choices in the systems that underpin them. There is little point in owning the latest capability if manning and skills constraints mean they can't be effectively or consistently employed when they are needed. We can help avoid this situation, quantify what needs to be done, and turn these challenges into successes. |
